Iloilo City

Iloilo City

Recognized as the first and only UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, Iloilo City honors its rich culinary heritage, vibrant food culture, and commitment to sustainable development apart from its historical sites, and heritage houses. Come and enjoy some of the city’s celebrated dishes including La Paz Batchoy, Pancit Molo, Laswa, and KBL (Kadyos, Baboy, Langka).

Dinagyang Festival

Celebrated every fourth Sunday of January, the Dinagyang Festival is among the Philippines’ most-awaited world-class festivals. It is both a religious and cultural celebration that is rooted in the devotion to the Holy Child Jesus, or Señor Santo Niño. It also celebrates the arrival of Malay settlers and the famed trade of Panay Island with the indigenous Ati people.

This event includes festivities, such as street dancing, the Ati Tribe Competition, and a showcase of Iloilo’s different festivals.

Molo Church

Molo Church, officially known as the Santa Ana Parish Church, was built in  1831. It underwent transformations, culminating in its Gothic-Renaissance Revival style seen today. The church’s façade, adorned with rough stone and intricate Gothic elements, beckons visitors with its two towers crowned by spires and pointed arches.

Despite facing challenges, such as damage during World War II, Molo Church has stood resilient, restored by Rev. Manuel Alba and the faithful. Its historical significance was acknowledged in 1992 when it was declared a national landmark by the National Historical Institute.

Iloilo River Esplanade

The Iloilo River Esplanade, stretching over nine kilometers along the picturesque Iloilo River in Iloilo City, stands as an exemplary urban oasis and linear park. Designed by renowned landscape architect Paulo Alcazaren, the esplanade’s scenic allure and strategic location have made it a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike.

Since its inauguration on August 18, 2012, the esplanade has evolved into one of Iloilo’s premier attractions, drawing thousands to millions of visitors annually. Recognized with prestigious awards like the Haligi ng Dangal Award, Galing Pook Award, and Asian Townscape Awards (ATA), the project’s success reflects its integral role in the city’s urban revitalization and river rehabilitation efforts.

From Carpenter’s Bridge to Muelle Loney (Drilon) Bridge, the esplanade meanders through various districts, offering a serene environment for leisurely walks, jogging, biking, and social gatherings. Its scenic pathways, lush greenery, and thoughtful design elements encapsulate the essence of Iloilo’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
