Bontoc Museum

The Bontoc Museum showcases the profound cultural heritage of the indigenous tribes and communities of the Cordilleras. Within its premises, visitors embark on an immersive journey through a meticulously curated collection of artifacts, photographs, weaving materials, agricultural implements, and indigenous weaponry, including spears. Notably, the museum houses an outdoor exhibit showcasing the traditional dwellings constructed by the Bontoc people from cogon grass and stone walls.

Lang-ay Festival

Lang-ay, which means “sharing among the community,” symbolizes the spirit of unity, fellowship, and cultural pride among the people of Mountain Province. It reflects the province’s tradition of unity, hospitality, and communal support, where people gather to share food, culture, resources, friendship, and celebrations. The festival embodies this spirit by bringing together the province’s different municipalities and indigenous communities in a celebration of their shared heritage and identity. 

Am-among Festival

The Bontoc Am-among Festival holds immense significance as a cornerstone of the town’s annual founding anniversary celebrations. According to the venerable wisdom imparted by the local elders, the term ‘am-among’ encapsulates the ancestral custom of the Bontoc community, symbolizing a ‘clan reunion’ that transpires following the culmination of the initial rice cultivation season, commonly referred to as ‘chinakhon.’

Sumaguing Cave, Sagada

Descending approximately two hundred fifty steps along a precipitous path, one can reach the Sumaguing Cave, a renowned spelunking destination in Sagada, Mountain Province. This captivating location offers an exhilarating experience for adventurous individuals seeking an unforgettable adventure.

Sagada Blue Soil, Sagada

Embark on a hike in Mountain Province, where you will have the opportunity to witness Sagada’s renowned Blue Soil. The Marlboro Hill – Blue Soil Traverse offers an approximately four- to five-hour hike, leading you through scenic mountain trails before arriving at this unique natural attraction characterized by its striking turquoise-blue soil. Hanging Coffins of Sagada 

Witness the Kankanaey hanging coffins of Sagada. The indigenous group in the northern Philippines practiced a unique tradition of burial wherein their deceased were elevated aboveground in the mountains to facilitate their proximity to the ancestral spirits. For further insights into indigenous culture, visit this site through a short guided trek from the town center.

Bomod-ok Waterfalls, Sagada

Also known as the “Big Falls”—is one of Sagada’s most impressive natural attractions. Nestled deep within lush mountains and rice terraces, it features a towering cascade that plunges into a refreshing natural pool below. Reached through a scenic trek passing through local villages and terraced landscapes, Bomod-ok Falls offers visitors a rewarding adventure and a breathtaking glimpse of Sagada’s pristine highland beauty. 

Maligcong & Bayyo Rice Terraces, Bontoc

Mt. Kalawitan, Bontoc & Sabangan

Mount Kalawitan is the 10th highest summit in the Philippines, located in Sabangan and Bontoc, Mountain Province. Known for its challenging and rugged terrain, it is a favored destination among experienced hikers and mountaineers, offering sweeping panoramic views of the Cordillera mountain ranges and nearby Ifugao landscapes. The name Kalawitan, as preferred by locals, is believed to be derived from the Kankaney word kalawit, meaning “to climb,” reflecting the mountain’s steep and demanding ascent.

Mt. Amuyao, Barlig

It is one of the highest peaks in the Cordillera region, rising to about 2,702 meters above sea level. Located in Barlig, Mountain Province, it is known for its challenging trek, steep trails, mossy forests, and rich biodiversity. But mountains have a way of rewarding those who keep moving, towering trees, vibrant flowers, and a summit that opens up to a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding highlands.
